4.2 Service Member’s Group Life Insurance (SGLI)

SGLI insured have two options available to them upon release from

service. They can convert their full-time SGLI coverage to term insurance

under the Veterans’ Group Life Insurance program or to a permanent plan

of insurance with one of the participating commercial insurance companies.

Military members may purchase a SGLI

policy through military pay deduction. It is currently limited to $250,000

(since 1 April 2001). See Service
