State Active Duty
Guard personnel may be called to State Active Duty (SAD) to help communities after a flood, fire, snowstorm or other natural or man-made disaster. Normally, the Governor of a state or territory declares a State of Emergency before the National Guard can be brought on State Active Duty. Guard personnel called to State Active Duty receive pay for each day worked. Each state’s pay is different.
